- What is Read-Spell-Comprehend™ (RSC)?
- The Read-Spell-Comprehend™ Program develops the sensory-cognitive processes that are the basis of reading, spelling, math, visual-motor skills, auditory processing, language comprehension, and critical thinking. This program is based on a nationally recognized, proven method, modified to include The Davis Center's testing, materials, activities and supportive information to enhance processing and comprehension.
The program may also develop or enhance phonemic awareness for reading, spelling, and speech, symbolic imagery for sight words and spelling, concept imagery for comprehension and thinking, specific auditory processing skills such as auditory discrimination, memory, and sequencing, visual-motor skills, and math computation and reasoning.
- Who can benefit from Read-Spell-Comprehend™ (RSC)?
- Read-Spell-Comprehend™ is for people with reading, spelling, writing, comprehension, auditory processing, and math difficulties. It is for individuals, ages 5 through adulthood, ranging from severely learning disabled to those who are academically gifted.
- Why does Read-Spell-Comprehend™ (RSC) work?
- The most important aspect of learning is the teaching of oral and written comprehension. We take information from our surroundings, process it, and use that information. We also combine auditory, visual, and language processes to comprehend our world. Reading, spelling, and writing all involve these necessary processing skills. The goal is a more fluent, rapid, accurate comprehension of what was processed. Math also involves cognitive processing and requires the dual coding of imaging and language.
The Read-Spell-Comprehend™ (RSC) program incorporates many Lindamood Bell Learning Processes™ materials, the use of which has demonstrated significant progress from the instruction of reading, spelling, phonics, writing, and comprehension. RSC further incorporates a variety of auditory processing techniques, testing and services that focus on visual development, auditory discrimination and processing and neurodevelopment that have proven effective at The Davis Center.
- What does Read-Spell-Comprehend™ (RSC) involve?
- As compared to the Lindamood Bell Learning Processes™, which requires intense on-site training, The Davis Center's Read-Spell-Comprehend™ programs have been adapted to accommodate working parents. We
currently offer an intensive summer program.
Each student has a comprehensive evaluation, and the areas of weakness or deficiency are determined. The appropriate portion(s) of the program is/are suggested and the appropriate schedule option is chosen. Progress is reviewed periodically. At the end of the program(s), the student has a final evaluation.
- Why use The Davis Center?
- The goal of The Davis Center is for students to be independent, self-regulating, critical thinkers. A comprehensive, proprietary evaluation identifies specific areas where processing abilities are weak. Some clients may need to start with other "foundational" therapies, while others will only need Read-Spell-Comprehend™ (RSC). The staff, with backgrounds in audiology, education, rehabilitation and development, attended courses taught by Phyllis Lindamood and Nancy Bell in San Luis Obispo, CA. The Davis Center staff developed the Read Spell Comprehend™ (RSC) program to provide students with a comprehensive, individualized program.
